Group Purchasing Organizations, IDNs, RPCs & ACOs

For GPOs and network leaders, the question is not whether waste will be collected. It is whether the system managing it is transparent, contract-aligned, and built to withstand scrutiny. Our Preferred Partner Program exists to support that objective.

Medical Waste Solutions Across Healthcare Networks

Healthcare consolidation has changed how regulated waste is managed.

Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs), Regional Purchasing Coalitions (RPCs), and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are no longer evaluating waste services at the facility level alone. They are evaluating enterprise-wide risk, economic predictability, regulatory alignment, and operational consistency across diverse care settings.

Sharps Medical Waste Services partners with healthcare networks to deliver standardized, scalable, and contract-aligned waste programs across diverse facility types and multiple jurisdictions.

The objective is simple: protect the network, simplify oversight, and create economic predictability.

The Risk of Fragmentation

Many healthcare networks inherit multiple waste vendors across acquisitions, specialty facilities, and regional expansions. Over time, this creates:

  • Inconsistent contract terms
  • Variable pricing structures
  • Different service cadences
  • Uneven compliance documentation
  • Limited visibility at the network level

Fragmentation increases administrative burden and introduces risk exposure that is difficult to quantify until a regulatory event or internal audit reveals it.
Enterprise buyers need alignment, not patchwork.

The Sharps Preferred Partner Program

Our Preferred Partner Program is designed specifically for healthcare networks seeking contract alignment, pricing discipline, and service standardization across multiple facilities.

Regulatory Alignment Across Jurisdictions

Participating Networks

Through this program, participating networks receive:

  • Structured enterprise agreements aligned with procurement governance
  • Defined pricing models that reduce variability across markets
  • Clear service standards and escalation pathways
  • Streamlined onboarding for newly acquired or affiliated facilities
  • Dedicated network-level support

The intent is not to impose uniformity for its own sake. It is to create a stable, defensible waste program that scales as your organization evolves.

Preferred Partner status allows networks to reduce contracting friction while maintaining oversight and control.

Built for Multi-Site Complexity

Healthcare networks encompass hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care clinics, physician practices, long-term care communities, and home health operations. Each setting generates different waste profiles and may operate under different state-specific requirements.

Sharps supports regulated medical waste and sharps, pharmaceutical waste including controlled substances where permitted, hazardous waste pharmaceuticals, chemotherapy waste, and universal waste recycling within a unified governance framework.

We align program design to operational realities, not theoretical models.

Regulatory Alignment Across Jurisdictions

Regulated waste compliance varies by state and sometimes by municipality. Storage limitations, pharmaceutical classifications, and transport requirements are not identical across markets.

Sharps works with enterprise leadership and facility teams to align programs with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, DEA, and state-level requirements. We focus on building a defensible structure that supports survey readiness and audit response without overwhelming frontline teams.

Compliance should be embedded into operations, not layered on top of them.

Supporting Growth, Mergers, and Expansion

Healthcare networks continue to grow through acquisition and service-line expansion. Waste management programs must adapt quickly without creating service disruption.

Preferred Partner networks benefit from structured onboarding processes that help newly affiliated facilities transition into an aligned waste program. This reduces variability, accelerates integration, and supports procurement oversight.

Growth should not increase exposure.

How Hospital Waste Programs Begin

Sharps follows a structured onboarding process for hospitals and health systems:

We begin with a structured kickoff meeting to align stakeholders, define scope, confirm waste streams, and establish implementation timelines. This ensures leadership visibility and cross-functional clarity from day one.

Our regulatory team conducts a detailed review of your waste characterization, segregation practices, storage timelines, and documentation requirements to confirm alignment with applicable state and federal regulations.

We develop a clear conversion plan covering container deployment, route scheduling, vendor changeover logistics, and communication to internal teams to prevent service gaps.

Containers are deployed, schedules are activated, and staff receive practical training focused on segregation accuracy, safe handling, and documentation standards.

Service begins with proactive monitoring during the first pickup cycles to confirm scheduling accuracy, container placement efficiency, and documentation integrity.

Post-implementation, we review service data, storage practices, and waste categorization to identify optimization opportunities and support accreditation readiness.

Dedicated support, service tracking, and periodic reviews help maintain compliance, adjust to operational changes, and support growth across facilities.

Very professional and timely when picking up our medical waste from the funeral home. Calls to confirm we have waste for pickup so they do not make an unnecessary trip out.

Been having issues with Dupixent sending me wrong sharps containers to disposal of pens. Ended up working with Andrea Juarez who was FANTASTIC !!!!!!! She could not have been more helpful in taking ownership of my issue regarding attempting to get OPTUM pharmacy to send me the correct containers. She explained she will speak to the folks over at Client Services or something at OPTUM to see about shipping me the correct container – ?SKU#: 11000 immediately for NY, and ensure that when I change deliveries to my vacation home in Florida, that the correct Sharps container will be shipped there, also. She told me to expect a call from her after this weekend with the results of her conversation with the fulfillment folks. I fully anticipate to hear back from her after the weekend. Again, I cannot emphasize strongly what an asset she is to your organization!!!
